  Abstract

  The element-free Galerkin method is employed for a two-dimensional analysis of steady-state heat transfer. The unknown response of the system, i.e. temperature, is approximated using the moving least squares technique. Numerical integration of governing simultaneous system of equations is performed by Gauss quadrature and new modified nodal integration techniques. Numerical examples and tests have proved that the new methods remain in an acceptable level of accuracy while providing less expensive and much faster approaches.

  Contact Based Delamination and Fracture Analysis of Composites

  Abstract

  A new approach based on the concepts of the discrete element method, is presented for impact resistance analysis of composites. The method is capable of analysing the progressive fracturing and fragmentation behaviour, as well as potential post-cracking interactions caused by the newly created crack sides and segments. The imminence of a material crack is monitored by an anisotropic Hoffman model. To avoid the mesh dependency of the results, a bilinear local softening model, based on modes I and II, is also adopted in this study to account for release of energy and redistribution of forces that caused the formation of a crack. A special re-meshing method has been developed to geometrically model an individual crack by splitting the element, separating the failed node, creating new nodes and dividing the neighbouring elements to preserve the compatibility conditions. Numerical simulations have been performed to assess the performance of the proposed algorithm. The method has proved to be an efficient approach for impact analysis of composites undergoing progressive delamination and cracking.

  Abstract

  A numerical method based on contact algorithms is developed for 3D delamination modelling in composites subjected to impact loading. Composite plies are modelled with discrete/finite elements and the interlaminar behaviour of plies is considered using combination of a bilinear strain-softening model and the Penalty method. A numerical example is investigated to assess the ability of the method.

  Abstract

  The book consists of a collection of multi-choice questions to improve the reader's primary mental abilities. It is authored especially for the talented secondary school students who aim to improve their intellectual skills. The book is not deemed to be an IQ (Intelligence Quotient) test book. As IQ which is measured as:

  

  shows the ratio of everyone's intelligence regarding his/her present age (usually with a tolerance of about 10%) affected by different factors such as environmental, physical, nourishment, etc conditions. For example, an IQ of 140% for a 10-year old person means that he/she has a 14-year old ordinary person's intelligence. So, IQ measurement requires standard multi-choice tests without negative points. That is, the number, difficulty and the answering time should be normalised according to the age of people of a society. The necessity of adapting these tests to a normal distribution curve can show the ratio of everyone's intelligence to people of the society, too; hence, yield to a proper educational and training plans. According to the curve, one among every 160 persons of a society has an IQ over 140%, and one's IQ among every 11,000 is over 160% who is called "Genius". Though such tests are the main references of this book, IQ measurement is not the main aim of it. Certainly, the ability of thinking is not instructible. However, the art of thinking can be improved by practising in the framework of fundamental parts of primary mental abilities that are verbal ability and word fluency, numerical, reasoning and perceptual abilities, spatial ability and memory. This book includes more than 600 questions for intellectual skill-learning and practising. Furthermore, it contains a number of appendices to improve thinking ways and develop new ideas.

  Abstract

  Abstract

Therefore, the variety and diversity of the questions may not only enables the readers to be prepared for the higher level exams; but also, improve their knowledge and skills to manage and solve maths problems more effectively.
